Pick the accessories you care about, choose how many tiles fit, and arrange them in the order that makes sense to you — on the Home Screen or the Lock Screen. Your kitchen thermometer does not have to live next to your garden one just because some list says so.
Temperature, humidity, contact, motion, light level, air quality — if it shows up in the Home app, HomeTiles can put it on a tile. Lights, switches, thermostats and scenes can even be controlled right from the tile, if you want them to be. No particular brand required, and nothing extra to buy.
iOS decides how often any widget may update, and it is stricter than most people expect. HomeTiles works within that budget rather than against it: it refreshes when iOS allows, lets you tap for a fresh reading, and shows a small marker when readings are getting old — so you are never guessing whether a number is current.

Almost always because iOS is rationing widget refreshes rather than because something is broken. iOS decides the budget based on battery level, Low Power Mode, and how often you actually look at the widget — apps cannot override it.
Worth checking:
HomeTiles can only see accessories that your iPhone can see. Two things to check: that HomeTiles has been granted access to your home data in Settings → Privacy & Security → HomeKit, and that the accessory shows up in the Home app itself. If it does and still isn’t listed, it may expose a kind of reading HomeTiles doesn’t show yet — drop us a line with what it is.
Yes, if you want to. In the widget designer, any tile showing a light, switch or thermostat can be turned into a control: tap to switch it on or off, step a brightness or target temperature with + and −, cycle a thermostat mode, or run one of your scenes. It’s opt-in per tile — every other tile just shows its reading.
Yes. If iCloud is on, the layouts you design appear on your other iPhones and iPads signed into the same Apple Account. Only the layouts sync — live readings stay on each device, which reads them from your home itself. You can also send a layout to someone else as a file from the share sheet.
